I.M. Pei: A Museum on the Water is an intimate look into the creative journey of legendary architect I.M. Pei and his remarkable design of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. Personally invited by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Father Amir, Pei came out of retirement to embark on a profound exploration of the Islamic world in search of inspiration, a journey that led to one of the most iconic cultural landmarks in the region.
Through exclusive interviews and rare archival material, the film traces Pei’s vision, process, and enduring legacy, revealing his deep respect for light, geometry, and tradition. Filmed across Doha, New York, Geneva, Istanbul, and Paris, A Museum on the Water celebrates the harmony between art, architecture, and landscape, and the timeless beauty of a museum that rises from the sea as a monument to Islamic heritage.
